The Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire has been awarded two thousand pounds to help visually impaired people in North Warwickshire, thanks to people voting for them.
The centre entered the Lloyds Bank Community Fund and was up against three other organisations competing for people’s votes to help them run worthwhile projects to benefit the local community.
Thanks to people putting in a vote on line and at local branches the centre can in at second place and is now able to run a Cooking For Confidence Course for people with visual impairments.
People will be invited to come along and use the centre’s White Hart Tea Room kitchen which has been especially adapted for people with visual impairments. They will be able to cook up new recipes and meet people in similar situations to themselves.
Centre Manager Martin Horner said “We are delighted that so many people took the time to put a vote in for us. We have run these courses in the past and they proved popular and successful in boosting visually impaired people’s confidence in the kitchen. Unfortunately the courses at the start of this year had to come to an end because of the funding, but now with this extra two thousand pounds we can run an extra course and help make a difference to some more people’s lives”
The Lloyds Bank Community Fund was set up to help local people across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to have a positive impact at the heart of their community by giving grants to 1,400 local good causes in 350 communities.
Nearly 1.5 million votes were cast for good causes across the country during the voting that took place between 2 September and 10 October.
