Heritage Lottery Parc Project
The Volunteer Centre secured funding from the Heritage Lottery in February 2004 to set up a project aimed at encouraging young people to get involved in archaeology.
The project initially concentrated on developing partnerships with relevant organisations and eventually formed the Parc group, consisting of young people interested in finding out more about archaeology and local experts willing to be their mentors.
Parc has attracted twenty young people over the time it has been running and they have been involved in various activities including field-walking, researching and recording finds and learning about Polesworth and its history, including the lost village of Hoo.
Expertise and guidance for the project has been provided by local archaeologist Vicky Nailor, Polesworth High School Head of History Paul Addison, field walking expert Malcolm Lockett, Father Phillip from Polesworth Abbey and Sue Collins and other members of the Polesworth Society. Millennium Volunteers helped with the recruitment of young people to the group and advice and guidance around young volunteers.
The Parc group has produced a leaflet detailing their activities over the first year from September 2004 to August 2005 which you can download as an Adobe Pdf file. This will require Adobes Acrobat Reader version 6.0 or later installed on your PC.
