Cooking with Confidence Course really is making a difference

The Cooking with Confidence Course for people with visual impairment run by the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire has been hailed a massive success. The second course has just been completed with one trainee saying “It has given me so much confidence. I haven’t been in my garden for over 2 months and through the course it has shown me I can do things I never thought I could do before and since taking part in the course I have developed the confidence to go out into my garden every day and have started cooking some of my own meals at home allowing me to get back some of my independence.”

Martin Horner from the Volunteer Centre who runs the course in partnership with Warwickshire Association for the Blind said “This is one of my favourite projects I have been involved with, this is the first time I have worked with people who have visual impairments. The people on the course have taught me as much as I have taught them. I just hope we can find some funding to continue with the project next year as so many more people benefit.”

The Volunteer Centre are fully booked for the next 2 courses which will be running alongside each other due to popular demand but still have some places available for the fifth course.  The free 10 week course for people with visual impairments is being funded by Awards for All, part of the Big Lottery and supported by the Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire.
