Two long standing volunteers in Atherstone have being treated to a bit of a knees up!
The Volunteer Centre North Warwickshire recently celebrated the birthdays of Nicola Wait, who turns 40 at the start of June and Gill Jones who is seventy at the end of the month.
Both ladies have been volunteering with the centre for many years doing reception work and helping out in the volunteer run project The White Hart Tea Room.
Centre Manager Martin Horner says “We really value the work of volunteers, especially those who have been with us a long time. When we heard the two big birthdays were close together, we thought wouldn’t it be nice to have a bit of a get together.”
All volunteers and management committee were invited to the bash which took place in the centre’s tea room at the bottom of Long Street in Atherstone.
Martin added “We are also grateful to the tea room volunteers who helped put the birthday buffet together in the morning. It’s great that they could help out and then enjoy the celebrations as well.”
Nicola from Polesworth said “I love it at the centre. The volunteering I have done has made me feel more confident dealing with customers and talking to them. It has also given me some great experience of what it is like to work in the food industry.”
The soon to be forty year old recently got a part time catering job at a local nursing home. She says “I really think my volunteering helped me. I do a couple of shifts a week helping out in the kitchen”
The first week in June is dedicated to volunteers as it is the start of Volunteers’ Week on Nicola’s birthday the first of June.
Volunteers across North Warwickshire will be recognised for their hard work volunteering. The Volunteer Centre is opening its doors to everyone on Wednesday 3rd June 10 – 2pm.
People can drop in to find out more about the benefits of volunteering and what opportunities are available to them.
